Located at the junction of the Western Highland Rim and the Tennessee River Valley, it is largely forested area with highlands separating the Buffalo and Tennessee River watersheds and numerous other hills and ridges; flat lands are largely confined to the river valleys and the southern sections.
The three incorporated towns (Clifton, Collinwood and Waynesboro) have unique character differences distinguishing themselves from the others.
